We’ve heard countless stories from drivers like yourself who pick up tipsy, drunk, or even drugged-up passengers. But the question is: what’s the best way to handle them?
We know the story: the rider (or riders) are highly rated so you decide to pick them up even if it at an obscene hour. They jump in your car, everything seems okay, but then they start acting unintelligible, belligerent, pass out, or even vomit. Ahh. What do you do in this case? This is so not why you signed up to driver for Uber or Lyft.
Fortunately, we have some tips for you.
First, remain calm and professional. The last thing you want is to allow your emotions to get the best of you to make the situation worse. If it looks like they are about to vomit, for example, give them a emesis bag.
Second, if the rider is acting out of control, remind them that their behavior is not acceptable and that their actions might not be covered by insurance, which means they could be personally liable for any potential damage they cause.
Third, if the passenger continues to act rudely, pull your car over, park, and exit the vehicle. Open their door and politely ask them to exit the vehicle. Your assertiveness will prove your point and most riders will get it.
Of course, these aren’t the only things that you can do, but just three quick and easy tips for you to handle riders that might be less than sober.
